Meta Eyes Prediction Market Platform

State of play: Meta is internally experimenting with a prediction market app called "Arena" that uses points instead of real cash, leaning on its billions of users across Facebook and Instagram to drive adoption.

Arena is still experimental, built by a small team with Zuckerberg's backing, and would use points rather than real-world currency.
Meta attempted a prediction market before with Forecast in 2020, shutting it down two years later as its pandemic-era crypto push faded.
The move follows a pattern of crypto-adjacent bets that stalled: stablecoin Libra was shelved after congressional pushback, and Meta has poured $80B into a metaverse that is now winding down.

Why it matters: Meta's distribution could mainstream prediction markets overnight, but a points-based system suggests more hedging than conviction.

Our take: Arena follows the same playbook as Libra, the metaverse, and Forecast, big splash, low commitment. Meta's track record here should temper the hype.

For builders and investors: If Arena scales, standalone platforms will need to compete on depth and credibility, not distribution, that's a race Meta wins easily.

CME Sues CFTC Over Perp Approval

CME's lawsuit against the CFTC is less about legal principle and more about market share. With $87T in global crypto perp volume in 2025, the exchange sees Kalshi's newly approved Bitcoin perpetual as a direct threat to its growing futures and options business.

The CFTC fast-tracked Kalshi's Bitcoin perp approval on May 29 via a one-day self-certification process, then signaled Regulation 40.3 as a broader pathway for new perpetual listings.
CME's core legal argument is that perpetuals are swaps under Dodd-Frank, but the CFTC treated them as futures given their standardized contracts, centralized clearing, and mark-to-market mechanics.
The CFTC's counter is that perpetuals didn't exist when Dodd-Frank was passed, making the futures regime the more appropriate fit for the risks they pose.

CryptoQuant Urges Strategy to Pause BTC Buys

State of play: CryptoQuant is calling on Strategy to stop buying bitcoin and rebuild cash reserves, as dividend coverage has collapsed from over seven years to just 14 months while all BTC purchased since 2024 sits underwater.

Strategy's cash reserves have fallen 38% since the start of 2026 after repurchasing $1.5B of convertible notes, while annual dividend obligations have quadrupled to $1.2B as more STRC was issued to fund purchases.
Preferred stock STRC hit a record low of $82.50 last week, 17.5% below par, with CryptoQuant estimating Strategy needs $2.8B in cash reserves to restore 24 months of dividend coverage.
Selling bitcoin is not a viable fix either, as Strategy sits on $10.6B in unrealized losses across all BTC bought in 2024, 2025, and 2026.

Zama Launches First Confidential USDC Vault

Zama and Steakhouse Financial have launched a confidential USDC vault on Morpho that lets users earn yield without exposing individual balances onchain, with a 12-week incentive program starting June 24 that front-loads rewards to early depositors.

Deposits are made in cUSDC, batched every 24 hours before being deployed into the underlying Steakhouse Prime USDC strategy, with observers able to see batch totals but not individual contributions.
The vault uses the same collateral and credit parameters as Steakhouse Prime USDC, backed by cbBTC, WBTC, and wstETH via Morpho Blue markets, generating a native 4% yield.
The 12-week boost is structured in three phases of decreasing intensity, with weeks 1 and 2 offering the highest APY as daily drip is largest and TVL is lowest.
